It’s something we’ve all heard throughout our lives: getting an education is the key to getting a good job, making more money, or whatever measure of success we plan to use. Some of us have already achieved some of our educational goals and are looking to go further. Others of us decided not to go the traditional route, but are looking for ways to further our careers. Still more of us don’t feel that traditional education is the way to go and wonder what options are out there for us. Are there any affordable education pathways out there? Yes! No matter what path a person finds themselves on, there are several different approaches that people can take in order to further their education and advance their career.
Traditional or Affordable Education Pathway?
The first step is to always have an idea of what sort of jobs you are interested in and what exactly those will entail education-wise. You may think that certain careers only have one path when in fact they may have different avenues to be successful in those areas. Some careers do not even require a formal college education. In other careers you can simply get a recognized industry certification before being hired. The main thing to remember is that you should know where you want to go and how you have to get there.
Choosing Affordable Education Pathway that is Right for You
Traditional education, or continuing your education in the classroom through a 2-year or 4-year degree program is the route that most of us think we have to take. However as the cost of student debt and the saturation of the job market continues, many people are finding it as not an ideal route to take. Certain jobs will require a two or four-year degree oh, such as teaching, nursing, or many jobs in the medical field. If you are sure that that is an Avenue that you wish to pursue than traditional education is right for you. However, if cost and time are a big concern it is worth considering alternative education pathways that are more affordable.
Another route that you can consider if you have decided to continue your education is by looking for programs that are online. Many times these programs will be cheaper and faster to complete than returning to school or going the traditional path. Some people also don’t have the life circumstances to simply be able to drop their lives for a couple of years to go back to school. This is a great option for people who are working full-time and are searching for a program that requires little interaction in a classroom setting. This route will save you thousands of dollars in the long run.
Shift Towards Online Education
It is possible and also very realistic to become a successful individual without having to pursue a traditional degree program. There has been a shift in recent years of adults seeking industry certifications or online courses so that they can pursue careers where they can work with their hands. Online education is a great option because it gets you certified quickly and get you working in fields that are in high demand. Such programs are great because they incorporate education with hands-on experience in a job field, providing individuals with practical experience that they can then translate into their careers.
Education is no longer something that is just for the privilege. One of the great things about pursuing an education is that it doesn’t have to mean going to college or becoming academic, especially if that is not something that fits your world view.
